Three-Day Conference Organized by Indian Society of Agricultural Economics

Indian Society of Agricultural Economics (ISAE) organised its 78th conference at National Agricultural Science Complex, New Delhi. It was held for three days, 1st-3rd November 2018. A paper titled, "Sustainability of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) under Agricultural Value Networks in India: A case of Punjab and Gujarat" by Gupreet Singh, Parisha Budhiraja and Kamal Vatta has been published by ISAE's conference volume. CIPT researchers participated and one of the authors also presented the published paper . The paper explores the viability and sustainability of FPOs in the states of Punjab and Gujarat. It has been seen that in the case of Gujarat and Punjab the FPOs faced sustainability issues but at different levels. In case of Gujarat, FPOs faced post organizational issues, however in contrast to Punjab, which suffered structural impediments which made this channel unsuccessful among farmers. Therefore, it suggested that a strong and continuous Institutional support is required to sustain this marketing model which can enhance the bargaining power of small farmers through its functioning of product aggregation.
